Aloo Poha

  • 1. White thick-Poha (Avil/pressed rice)- 3 cups
  • 2. Onion – 1 no
  • 3. Potato -1 No-cut to small pieces
  • 4. Mustard -1/2 tsp
  • 5. Green chilli- 2 nos(as per your choice)
  • 6. Curry leaves-2 talk
  • 7. Cashewnut-5-6 nos
  • 8. Roasted Peanut- 2 table spoon(optional)
  • 9. Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
  • 10. Lemon juice -1 tsp
  • 11. Hing( kayam)-2-3 pinch
  • 12. Coriander leaves-1 tsp.
  • 13. Salt to taste
  • 14. Sugar ¼ tsp


  • 1. Put poha in a bowl of water, remove and squeeze the water and spread it on a plate, by doing so it will become soft and fluffy. Mix little salt and sugar to poha keep it aside.
  • 2. Heat a pan, add oil add mustard when it cracks, add cashew nut pieces, let it turn light brown.
  • 3. Add onions, curry leaves and green chilli and fry for few minutes till onion become light golden colour.
  • 4. Add turmeric powder and hing powder, when raw smell is removed, add potato and little salt and cover with a lid and cook it in low flame. If needed add 2 spoons of water
  • 5. Once the potato is cooked add the poha and mix well. Add lemon juice and add salt if necessary and mix well. Add the roasted peanuts and coriander leaves and decorate it. Serve it hot.
