Chakka Kuru Thoran (Jackfruit seeds)

  • Chakkakuru (jack fruit seed) – 250 gms – Remove the skin off the seeds and cut it into two and then into small pieces.
  • Water – as required
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Grated coconut – ½ cup
  • Green chili – 3-4 nos
  • Onion – 1 medium size finely sliced
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Salt as required
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 bunch
  • Red chilly -1
  • Coconut oil – 2 tsp


Cook the jackfruit seeds with turmeric powder and salt and ½ cup water in a bowl. Crush the grated coconut, cumin seed and green chilies. Once the seeds are cooked and dry remove it from fire. Take a small frying pan and warm it. Add the coconut oil and splutter the mustard and add red chilly (cut into three pieces), curry leaves and the coconut mixture and stir well and then lastly add the cooked jack fruit seeds and mix well. Cook on slow fire for another 2 -3 minutes and ready to serve with rice.
