Kaipakka -Bitter Gourd Kichadi

  1. Kaipakka- 2 Nos
  2. Green Chili- 3-4 nos
  3. Onion- 1No chopped
  4. Thick Yogurt- 11/2 cup
  5. Turmeric- a pinch
  6. Salt- to taste
  7. Mustard- ½ tsp
  8. Curry leaves
  9. Oil- 2 table spoon


  1. Wash, deseed and cut the Bitter gourd to thin small pieces. Marinate it with turmeric and salt. Keep it for ½ an hr.
  2. Chop the onions.
  3. Heat a pan, add mustard seeds, when it sputter add onions and sauté it for few minutes, when it become light pink colour add chopped bitter gourd, green chili and shallow fry it. The colour should turn to golden brown colour. Switch off the stove and let it cool.
  4. Take thick yogurt in a bowl. Beat it well to remove all the lumps, add the cooked bitter gourd. Check salt, add if necessary. Decorate it with fried curry leaves and serve it as side dish for rice.
