Yummy Chena (Elephant yam) and Chameen ( Prawns) Ball

  1. Elephant Yam ( Chena) Grated- 1 cup
  2. Prawns -8-10 nos deveined and cleaned
  3. Garlic – 3 cloves
  4. 4 Ginger – 1 tsp (Chopped)
  5. Green Chili- 2-3 Nos
  6. Shallot- 3 Nos
  7. Roasted Chana(Pottu kadala)- 3 table spoon
  8. Chili Powder -1/2 tsp
  9. Pepper- 1/4 tsp
  10. Fennel seeds- ½ tsp
  11. Curry leaves- 1 sprig
  12. Salt To taste;
  13. Egg white- 1 No
  14. Bread Crumbs- 1 tsp
  15. Salt to taste
  16. 16 Coriander Leaves- chopped 1 table spoon


  • Skin and grate the yam.
  • Stem the prawns.
  • Powder the Roasted Chana (Pottu kadala).
  • 4.Make a  prawns, green chili, ginger, garlic, shallots, chili powder, pepper powder, fennel,curry leaves and egg white .
  • Take a pan add little oil and add the yam and nicely mix, so that the yam is cooked in a low flame for 5 minutes. Add required salt to it. Do not add water.
  • Remove the yam into a plate, add the prawn mixture, and Roasted Chana power and mix thoroughly. Add the coriander leaves. Check salt.
  • Make balls and roll it in bread crumbs. And deep fry in oil till it is golden brown colour.
  • Serve it with ketchup.
