Green papaya salad is the most popular dish among women in Thailand. It is a Northeastern food that is eaten with sticky rice.
- Cherry Tomatoes 5 Nos.
- Chilly peppers All available colours 1 each
- Dried Shrimp Fried 1 tablespoon
- Fish Sauce 1 table spoon (You can use Apple Cedar instead)
- Garlic 1 Clove
- Green beans 6 Nos.
- Shredded Green papaya 2 cups
- Lime 1/2 squeezed
- Palm Sugar 1 spoon
- Peanuts 2 table spoons
- Salt As required
For a vegetarian som tum, omit the dried shrimp and substitute soy sauce for fish sauce. You can use apple cider vinegar as a substitute to Soy Sauce or Fish Sauce) and a half lemon squeezed. Optional – You can add fried dry shrimps or any other dry fish just to have a thai touch. Or if you want to go vegetarian just avoid that.
Some people use tamarind in place of lime. Regular sugar can be substituted for palm sugar.
