Green papaya salad is the most popular dish among women in Thailand. It is a Northeastern food that is eaten with sticky rice.

  1. Cherry Tomatoes    5 Nos.
  2. Chilly peppers          All available colours 1 each
  3. Dried Shrimp           Fried 1 tablespoon
  4. Fish Sauce                 1 table spoon (You can use Apple Cedar instead)
  5. Garlic                          1 Clove
  6. Green beans               6 Nos.
  7. Shredded Green papaya   2 cups
  8. Lime                           1/2 squeezed
  9. Palm Sugar                1 spoon
  10. Peanuts                       2 table spoons
  11.  Salt                             As required

For a vegetarian som tum, omit the dried shrimp and substitute soy sauce for fish sauce. You can use apple cider vinegar as a substitute to Soy Sauce or Fish Sauce) and a half lemon squeezed. Optional – You can add fried dry shrimps or any other dry fish just to have a thai touch. Or if you want to go vegetarian just avoid that.

Some people use tamarind in place of lime. Regular sugar can be substituted for palm sugar.
